Our work
BMN brings together diverse networks and perspectives whose voices are respected due to their expertise and experience, to help grapple with and solve our biggest challenges both within Muslim communities and in wider British society. We work to empower voices, enrich public debate and create impact for positive social change.
There are three core pillars to how we will do our work:
Convening Muslim leaders and experiences
Engaging with and advocating to policy makers
Advocating to the media
There are three core pillars to how we will do our work:
Convening Muslim leaders and experiences
- Convening cross community expert panels and working groups on specific topics of interest and need.
- Proactively harnessing expertise across British Muslim communities to develop and nurture a spectrum of voices and skills, celebrating and harnessing our diversity.
- Working closely and in collaboration with existing groups and organisations to develop constructive relationships. Our aim is to increase the capacity of existing Muslim civil society organisations to create positive impact, not replace them. We also want to help build stronger networks across existing civil society.
- Drawing on the experience, research, insight and data from British Muslims and civil society augmented by working with partners to provide accurate information about British Muslims.
- Developing positive relationships across diverse communities by building allies and mutual understanding.
Engaging with and advocating to policy makers
- Developing impactful relationships with policymakers and decision-makers in the public and private sector.
- Responding to requests for advice and engagement.
- Conducting ourselves and building a reputation as professional, authoritative, robust, inclusive, and forthright.
Advocating to the media
- Providing access to British Muslim voices to talk on different areas of media interest and concern.
- Promoting British Muslim expertise into relevant media and other forums on everyday issues.
- Proactively demonstrating the positive contributions to British society of British Muslims.
